What is Disciplined Agile?

     1325 views

PMI has rightly identified that in today’s day & age, “business agility” extends far beyond IT. It is the primary route by which an organization can go to market sooner, deliver value faster and make their customers happier. That is why an “agile mindset” and “agile skills” are sought after by organizations. They enable organizations to be ahead of competition in today’s fast changing environments.

Every organization perceives this “agility” differently or it may mean different things to different organizations. Due to this there is no single approach which works for everyone. In such a case, a tool-kit or a solution suite is critical to realize true business agility in an agnostic and pragmatic way. This is where the Disciplined Agile (DA) tool kit comes into picture!

Disciplined Agile is a toolkit (not a framework), that focuses on the decisions you need to consider, the options available to you, and the trade-offs associated with these options. supplies straightforward guidance to help you, your team, and your enterprise increase effectiveness to realize business agility. It empowers professionals, teams and organizations to effectively combine “relevant” strategies from different frameworks and methodologies like Scrum, Agile Modeling, Extreme Programming, Kanban, Agile Data, SAFe and many other approaches in a tailorable and scalable manner.

It allows organizations to apply and evolve their way of working (WoW) in a context-sensitive manner with this people-first, learning-oriented hybrid agile approach.

As rightly quoted by PMI, “Extend Agile beyond a single approach: Because true agility comes from freedom, not frameworks.”, which basically means, to be truly “agile” YOU should have the freedom to select relevant solutions or framework or methodology which is required in the current context and have the flexibility to choose another strategy when needed.
